On 22 January 2011, Admiralty Secondary School sent out a 10 men team, to participate in the First Lego League (FLL) competition. It is a competition organize by Science Centre and Heartware. For that year, the FLL theme was Body Forward. As the name implies, it is a research focused on human beings. The aim of the research team was to focus on a disease, and think of an innovative solution to solve problems concerned in the treating of the disease.

Through this competition, i start to develop an interest on how food and other factors could affect our health. As we all know, people nowadays are not consuming proper food or are not exercising regularly. This results in undesirable diseases like cancer, diabetes, etc.

Furthermore, Singapore is experiencing a rapidly increasing growth of the aging population ! I believe people from the field of nutrition, health and wellness is important , as we have the capabilities to cater to the needs of such people.

One of the career i hope to pursue is to be an assistant nutritionist .
this is because i love to interact with people, and at the same time i am also eager to learn why and how our bodies behave when it is aging, or being attacked by virus, etc. Also this career allows me to interact with my patient, for example: to advise them on good eating habits or suitable exercises. I believe i would not change my mind in choosing this as my future career as it is what i love and want to do in future.

Lastly, participating in various Robotics competitions as well as being a Student Councillor for 2 years, has helped to develop my analytical skills. This will serve as an added asset to work well with different people as well as being on task. :)

food science brings about happiness.

For my direct poly admission, i have placed food science and technology as one of my choices.
This is because i was greatly influenced by a local documentary named ' Food Specialist'.
The episode i had watched was about a food technologist working in a lab, where she had to use her sense of smell, and taste to create a new product, which is then added to certain food to add on to its flavors.
The half an hour show has inspired me to work in the same career path as her. By being a food technologist , i am able to alter different foods , or create healthier food to cater to the people! Just by blogging it , i can feel the adrenaline rush to start learning right away!

This brings me to source out various polytechnics to find out more about such a course that suits my interest. And hey presto !
I found a related courses(food science & technology)
in Singapore poly as well as a similar course in Temasek poly.
After much consideration, i decided to choose Singapore poly !
This is because......

  • SP's location is very convenient, and it is easy to access as the direction to school is very clear cut. Furthermore, it does not require me to change mrt line, or switch to a bus to reach. For a muddle-head like me,it is definitely an added advantage.

  • Secondly, Singapore Poly has set up many workshops that cater to graduating Secondary 4 students. For example; SP buddy workshop and the DPA talk that i went recently. This approach makes me feel like I am part of SP's big family. The people there are also friendly and approachable. I remembered my first time going in for a workshop and i could't find the location. One of the students there saw my worried expression, and offered to show me the location. I was really grateful towards her. :)

  • Furthermore, Singapore poly has great lecturers that has taught many of my seniors. This assured me that i can put my trust in the lecturers and be a better student when i am given the opportunity to study in SP.

  • Lastly, SP has good learning facilities that cater to the needs of the student. This makes learning more comfortable and fruitful !

Besides food science and technology, i am also deeply interested in nutrition health and wellness and biomedical science. No matter which course i am selected for, these are some things i like , love and hope to work with in future! :)
